| Advanced Battery Technologies, Inc. develops,manufactures
and distributes rechargeable polymer lithium-ion (PLI)
batteries, which are the newest and most environmentally-friendly
generation of portable power technology. All the components
of PLI batteries are solid, alleviating the need for
the bulky,inflexible casings that are used to contain
liquid-based batteries. As portable IT and communications
products such as laptop computers and cell phones
grow lighter and less burdensome, demand for smaller
batteries that offer greater amounts of energy willcontinue
to grow. In practical terms, PLI batteries offer the
user of consumer electronics longer usage and less
recharge time on everything from PDAs to portable
music players.
Advanced Battery Technologies¡¯ batteries combine
high-energy chemistry with state-of-the-art polymer
technology. They are very efficient in both weight
and volume, producing an average of 3.8 volts per
cell. Because each component of the battery is solid,
there is no need for the bulky casings that are
necessary with liquid-based lead-acid batteries,
and there is no danger of harmful leakage. The Company¡¯s
products are sold to original equipment manufacturers
(OEMs) as a component of finished products. The
largest market for the Company¡¯s products is the
Chinese mining industry, which is also the end point
for ABAT¡¯s only finished product ¨C a miner¡¯s lamp
with a rechargeable PLI battery. Solid relationships
with the government of China¡¯s Harbin province and
the Shanxi Xida Coalmine Safety Equipment Company,
a large state-owned enterprise, provide a steady
source of revenue for ABAT. The Company also markets
its products to notebook computer, automobile, bicycle
and digital camera manufacturers. Initial marketing
activities have been focused primarily in China,
Taiwan and Japan, with a global push planned as
production capacity is expanded.
